The Team, the School, the Non-Profit Associations

Moustapha Doucoure

Moustapha Doucouré is the Director of the school. Engaged into the project since its inception, he was in charge of collecting and entering the grades in the secondary school as well as the collection of the tuition before taking the helm in September 2015.
He remains the liaison between the school and the Ministry of Education and he represents the school at meetings with the local authorities.

Ibrahima Sarr

Ibrahima founded Avenir Plus in 2008. After starting two schools in the Guinguinéo area, where he provided education to 400 children, he decided with Djibril Faye to create a school in M'Bour. The fast growing population in this town has made the need for a better educational infrastructure more obvious than ever.

Cathy Petenzi

After running Kindergarten and the elementary school until September 2015, when Moustapha took over the direction of the school, Cathy manages the sponsorship program which benefits more than 150 children every year since 2008.

Jean Pierre Lepas

A stylist and Director of Development for some large fashion companies, Jean Pierre has always been interested in the many cultures of the world.
After retiring from the fashion world, Jean Pierre met with Cathy during a two month trip to Sénégal, when he first volunteered at Avenir Plus. This gave him the desire to get more involved in a project to help the children in Sénégal.
Despite the hard work and dedication of everyone in the school, providing a quality education as well as ensuring the future of the children and the school remains a challenge.
In France, Jean Pierre is the Treasurer of the non-profit association and is also the contact with the sponsors, all the Friends of Avenir Plus and the companies who can help us with their financial contributions.

A skilled and motivated team.

Despite our limited means, our team has demonstrated a lot of dedication to give the children the education they deserve.

A few words about the school.

The school is located in the Medine neighborhood of M'Bour, a city of 300,000, 50 miles south of Dakar. It was founded in 2008 by a small group of Senegalese teachers, out of concern for the quality of the education received by local children. The public schools in Sénégal are often overcrowded, with more than 100 students per class, and cannot face the demand. In this context, it is virtually impossible to sustain a quality education program.

The not-for-profit associations.

We created a not-for-profit organization in France (Association régie par la loi de 1901) - Avenir Plus. Donors who pay income tax in France can therefore benefit from a deduction of up to 60% or more of the donation (please consult your accountant). Cathy, Anne-Marie and Jean-Pierre are respectively President, Secretary and Treasurer. A similar non-profit organization (under the same name) has also been created in Sénégal, for the purpose of collecting the donations, buying the land, building the school and making the buildings available to the school and the school only. Cathy, Ibrahima, Doucoure and Jean-Pierre are also on the board of that non-profit organization. We are currently working on the creation of a non-profit (501c) in the USA. This is a more complex and lengthy project. We will update our supporters and this site with our progress. When done, it will allow our friends in the US to also benefit from some tax deductions.
